Yan Chai Hospital opened its doors to patients on 28 August 1973, and was officially opened on 24 October that year by the Hong Kong Governor, `F33f`_`[Murray MacLehose`:/page/wikibook/entry.mu`zim=wikipedia_en_all_nopic_2025-08.zim|entry_path=Murray_MacLehose,_Baron_MacLehose_of_Beoch]`_`f. The hospital was built and equipped at a cost of about HK$5.5 million, of which HK$1.7 million was funded by the Hong Kong Government, HK$0.4 million by the `F33f`_`[Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club`:/page/wikibook/entry.mu`zim=wikipedia_en_all_nopic_2025-08.zim|entry_path=Royal_Hong_Kong_Jockey_Club]`_`f, and the rest by the directors of the hospitals.`:cite-ref-2[`F5bf`_`[2`#cite-note-2]`_`f]
